In my opinion if the BIOS does not support this feature you so would not be able to activate the lighting, even if the keyboard has been installed. Please note that each model of mobile phone is supported and some BIOS each BIOS is different. I wanted to upgrade with a backlit keyboard, so I went to an authorized Toshiba reseller in my area (Portsmouth, UK) and after checking the laptop, they said yes, it supports a backlit keyboard and it cost around 90 pounds (about 140 dollars) the price of the backlit keyboard and the cost of installation. Satellite A500-1GL upgraded with keyboard backlight, but do not work
